West Brom welcomes Leicester to The Hawthorns on Sunday for their first Premier League match of the 2020/21 season.

It is West Brom’s first match back in the English top-flight since their relegation after the 2017/18 season. They achieved promotion at the second time of asking, finishing 4th and then 2nd in the Championship, to achieve automatic promotion.

The Premier League transfer window runs from July 27 to Oct. 5 in the summer, and most clubs will want their squads sorted before the 2020-21 season kicks off on Sept. 12.

Leicester are looking to go one better than their 5th place finish in the Premier League last season. West Brom gained promotion to the Premier League with a reputation for being hard to beat. They lost just seven games last season; two fewer than Champions Leeds. The big difference between them and the Champions was in the number of games drawn, since they drew seventeen compared to just nine for Leeds United.

Slaven Bilic’s first instinct is not to lose games because he thinks about the game in terms of defending first and foremost. While they struggle in possession at times against well-structured teams and rely on the individual brilliance of Pereira to drop deep and make things happen.

“When you’ve got the ball 65-70% of the time, it’s a football death for the other team…It’s death by football.”

– Brendan Rodgers, Leicester City Manager

He prefers technical players who are comfortable in possession. Players like Tielemans and Maddison are used to progress play centrally who are comfortable in small spaces. They also use their full-backs, Barnes and Gray to carry the ball in wide areas.

West Brom are likely to defend in a low-block asking Leicester whether they can break them down.
