Watford captain Troy Deeney revealed he would undergo surgery on a troublesome knee in the coming days, conceded he was unsure of his immediate future.

“I will be having a knee operation next week, Clubs can go in different directions and players can. If that is my last game, I am happy I went out on my shield. I am a simple man. Did I go out and do everything I could? Yes. Was it good enough? No.”

“We are working on this, we know and everyone knows the squad has to be improved. We have time to think about this and we have improve it before new season starts.  We know the market is open until October 5 but I don’t know if it’s possible to have the squad ready when we start in the middle of August.
