The African Cup of Nations qualifiers are back and Kenya will be hosting Comoros in Group G with both sides hoping to build on Match Day 2 draws. The two sides occupy the top slots in the group with Comoros top on four points and Kenya second on two. Having played at the last Cup of Nations finals, Kenya will be hoping for a second straight appearance in the next tournament. They opened their qualification campaign away in Egypt where they came from a goal down to draw 1-1. They impressed at home against Togo, but it ended 1-1. That draw with Togo left Kenya winless in three straight AFCON qualification games. Victor Wanyama is finding it hard reporting from his base in Canada while forward Michael Olunga is held in Japan by Covid-19 travel protocols. The two were also absent in October as the team beat Zambia 2-1 in an international friendly match and new coach Jacob Mulee.

They haven’t lost at home in AFCON qualifiers in the last four matches, beating higher ranked Ghana and Congo as well as Ethiopia, before drawing with Togo. These two sides met in a friendly match in 2018 which ended 2-2. Earlier in 2014, in a two legged AFCON qualifier, Kenya won 1-0 at home and the teams drew 1-1 in Comoros. The visitors are seeking a first win over Kenya in the fourth ever meeting between the two nations. They opened their campaign impressively away in Togo, winning 1-0 and went on to hold Egypt to a 0-0 draw. That earned them a third straight clean sheet and unbeaten outing and Comoros. Comoros haven’t managed more than one goal but they have three clean sheets in the process. They however have just one away win in 12 AFCON qualification matches, losing 10.

SportPesa which made an exit after a row with the government over betting taxes that hugely weighed on them stated that they had acquired a new licence and have resumed operations in the country.
