Most or some of us love football and can be found every weekend, packing out stadiums and sports fields passionately supporting teams we love and their players.
Question: “Should Christians participate in the ‘game of football, and to what extent? – as one of the team, attending the matches or watching the game at home on the TV.
But what does Scripture say concerning this particular sport on what was in God’s mind concerning this subject of football as a sport, or as entertainment. The Bible reveals God’s mind and thoughts on any given subject and it must be our foundation for everything pertaining to life and godliness
(2 Peter 1:3) says : His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.
The Word of God helps us to distinguish between what is good and evil (Hebrews 5:14) says: But solid food is for the mature, who by constant use have trained themselves to distinguish good from evil.
How was your experience with Christian brothers and sisters who were caught up in the things that come with the game, and how it ended up affected their Christian walk and testimony at some point.
One should examine the situation, as it now goes beyond the field to churches, with regards to football and similar sporting events.
One should allow the Scripture to reveal God’s view of what is taking place. Pray, study the Scriptures and seek God’s face, and come to your own conclusions as to what He would, or would not, have you believe and do or shouldn’t do.
We normally get caught up in the middle of chaos with the need of not solving the issue but forget how we should solve the situations. Christians need to act with love to show the difference and make a difference as well, to show the difference between the two parties involved in any situation at any given time.
I have been here so many times but keep quiet because I don’t talk a lot about what’s affecting me or someone said that grilled a hole in my heart. Do not get me wrong but I’m not a people person or I stopped being at some point but did not realized it, I will be there for you but not allow anyone else to be there for me because it all under control, It will get better someday.
A lot of people have been rescued from the darkness of this world when they accepted Jesus as their personal savior. God wants you to forsake the attractions of their old life of football and commit themselves fully to Him by using this platform and gift He gave you to shine his light to people.
We try to convince these young Christians that there was something wrong or worldly about the game of football. But as you begin to walk in obedience with the Lord, pray and read the Scriptures and fellowship with other believers, eventually they start being proud of showing that they are different.
How can anyone who professes to love and obey God possibly associate themselves and Football? which is greatly known for competing against, rather than esteeming and considering one another, things such as competitiveness, aggression, ego and pride, violence, drunkenness and riotous behavior, filthy language, the continual blaspheming of the Lord’s Name, fornication and adultery, gambling, smoking and drug abuse, not to mention wasting time other that to use it to win more souls to Christ.
All of these ungodly activities are common in sports.
I believe we can, and should associate our sinless Lord and Savior with any of these things so that we show Love to people who need it, show kindness, peace and that we are not so different from them. Use it as a tool to reach out to people without picking those we like and forgetting those who don’t roll in the same circle we do.
1 Timothy 6:11-12 says: But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. 12 Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.
Strangers are just friends we haven’t met yet.:) BE BLESSED.
