He joined the north London club on-loan from Barcelona in January but his time at the Emirates will be cut short due to a groin complaint.

He has not made a single start for Arsenal, despite costing the club £3.2million, including his £55,000 per week wages and £2.5m signing-on fee.

Suarez, who has played just 67 minutes worth of football in the Premier League, revealed the news in an emotional statement on Twitter yesterday.

‘I will not be able to play again this season,’ said Suarez.

‘Some issues with my groin have made things tough since the game against BATE in the Europa League in February and now they have forced me to stop training altogether.

‘After various medical consultations, the conclusion has been reached that I cannot keep pushing it and I have started a period of treatment that cannot be done alongside competitive football.

‘I am sorry for all the effort and sacrifice made to come to Arsenal hasn’t come to fruition as hoped and you can’t even imagine how angry I am about it, but health comes first.’
