2023 CECAFA U18: Group A Standings and Upcoming Matches

The African Cup of Nations kicked off on June 21st after a spectacular opening ceremony. This is Africa’s biggest football tournament.

Egypt (hosts) thrashed Zimbabwe by a lone goal in the first game of the tournament.

GROUP A: Egypt – DR Congo – Uganda – Zimbabwe
GROUP B: Nigeria – Guinea – Madagascar – Burundi
GROUP C: Senegal – Algeria – Tanzania – Kenya
GROUP D: Morocco – Ivory Coast – South Africa – Namibia
GROUP E: Tunisia – Mali – Angola – Mauritania
GROUP F: Cameroon – Ghana – Benin – Guinea-Bissau

Day 5 fixtures and results.

Two matches honoured at the Ismailia Stadium with the defending champions started their campaign against Guinea Bissau.

Two years ago in Gabon, thrashed Egypt in the final. Due to a payment row they were the last team to arrive in Egypt for the tournament.

The final group fixture for the night was between Ghana and Benin.

A fun fact : All the countires in this group have the same colours constituting their flags.

Mali vs Mauritania

Mali secures victory against first time participants, Madagascar.

73’ second Adama Traore scored

72’ Moctar Sidi El Hacen scored from the penalty spot to score Mauritania’s first goal in AFCON history.

55’ Adama Traore scores to put Mali at the fore front.

45’ Moussa Marega scored from the penalty spot.

37’ Abdoulaye Diaby scored to give Mali the lead.

Tunisia vs Angola

After 90 minutes, Tunisia and Angola earned a point each.

73’ Abel Campos equalised for Angola

34’ Youssef Msakni gave Tunisia the lead through a penalty

Ivory Coast vs South Africa

The Ivorians started their campaign with a 1-0 victory, who now are jointly top Group D with Morocco, with three points each.

64’ Jonathan Kodjia scored to give the Ivorians the lead against South Africa.

Day 3 fixtures and results.

Morocco’s victory against Namibia, meant that Ivory Coast will be up against South Africa for the final Group D fixture.

Burundi – who are making their first debut lost their Group B opener against Nigeria as Madagascar had a 2 – 2 draw with Guinea in the same group.

June 23: Results from Day 4 fixtures

Algeria vs. Kenya 2 – 0
Senegal vs. Tanzania 2 – 0
Morocco vs. Namibia 1 – 0

Tanzania’s Taifa Stars lost to Ternaga Lions of Senegal in their first fixture at the tournament.

Two goals from Balde (28’) and Diatta (65’). – one in each half – secured three points for Senegal.

Namibian (own goal)

The Atlas Lions of Morocco secured three points against Namibia through an own goal on Sunday at the Al Salam Stadium in Cairo.

Nigeria vs. Burundi 1 – 0
Guinea vs. Madagascar 2 – 2

Uganda vs Democratic Republic of Congo

Uganda scores two goals, which earned them three points and took the top slot in Group A.

Nigeria vs Burundi

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have won the Africa Cup of Nations three times faced first timers – Burundi led by Arsenal forward Alex Iwobi.

Kick OFF Egypt vs Zimbabwe

Hosts Egypt won against Zimbabwe in the opening fixture of the African Cup of Nations, AFCON, which kicked off in the Egyptian capital Cairo.

Today’s referee is either failing incompetent or biased towards Algeria. Algeria is getting away with murder in every department. Had it not been for the referee, Senegal could have won the match with a wide margin
