She Polopolo are in Nairobi for their Friday 8 November 2020 Olympic Qualifier against hosts Kenya’s Harambee Starlets.
The Zambians arrived in Nairobi, Kenya and will hope that they can get an away result that will enable them to have an upper hand as they host the second leg.
The two teams are favorites to make it to Tokyo next year after the ousting of heavyweights Nigeria and South Africa.
Harambee Starlets have had problems coming into this game with the team earlier planned camp called off due to lack of financial support from the government; a situation that was saved after the Football Kenya Federation President Nick Mwendwa intervened by accusing the government of lack of support.
Kenya eliminated Ghana in the previous round and has warmed up to the coming tie with a 3-1 loss at the hands of the Kenya men U15 team.
The winner of the match on aggregate will make it to the final round where Ivory Coast or Cameroon awaits; the winner of the last round automatically qualifying for the Olympic.
The loser will get a lifeline by facing South America’s Chile in a playoff; the latter having finished second in the CONMEBOL qualifying tournament.
The Football Kenya Federation has moved to waive gate charges for the Friday’s game.
The match with the second leg set to be played on November 11, 2019 in Lusaka.
