Aston Villa vs Burnley

Burnley are yet to lose to a team outside the ‘big six’ in the Premier League this season.

Villa start the weekend in the relegation zone as they bid to avoid an immediate return to the Championship.

Villa are still finding their feet since promotion to the Premier League and have just one win from their first six matches. They took the lead at both Tottenham and Arsenal but were unable to hold on, conceding twice in the last 10 minutes of last week’s 3-2 defeat despite the Gunners being down to 10 men.

Manager Dean Smith saying: “The game became too open with them at 10 men. We lost our fearlessness but for some reason we retracted second half and put us under pressure. We scored again and had a good five-minute spell but retracted again.”

“The players lost a bit of belief and that is what disappointed me the most. You look at the goals we conceded and they are sloppy.”

Last Villa EPL line-up: Heaton, Taylor, Engels, Guilbert, Mings, McGinn, Grealish, Nakamba, Trezeguet, El Ghazi, Wesley.

Burnley know just how difficult it can be to get a result against the top teams but they are consistently effective in fixtures such as this.

Defeats at Arsenal and at home to Liverpool were expected but they are unbeaten in their other four matches, having beaten Southampton and Norwich at Turf Moor as well as picking up a point at both Wolves and Brighton.

Against teams that finished 14th or lower last season, Sean Dyche’s men enjoyed eight wins and just one defeat, with all four of their away wins coming in those fixtures.

Last Burnley line-up: Pope, Lowton, Tarkowski, Mee, Pieters, Cork, McNeil, Hendrick, Westwood, Wood, Barnes.

Last Premier League result:

Arsenal 3-2 ASTON VILLA – John McGinn, Wesley

BURNLEY 2-0 Norwich – Chris Wood (2)
