This is the furthest they have come in the competition since 2005/06, when they saw off Tottenham only to lose to Newcastle.

Tottenham, Burnley, Newcastle, Norwich and Palace may ultimately find consolation in the space freed up in their calendar to pursue higher priorities.

The Blues are London’s first winners of the League Cup and the capital’s most successful club in this competition, with five successes.
