Arsenal’s first defeat of the season was away at Liverpool on Saturday, but the Gunners’ supporters will have been impressed by the performance of their club’s record signing Nicolas Pepe.
Despite David Luiz being drafted in, there were still signs of frailty in Unai Emery’s defense. Given the quality of Arsenal and Spurs’ attacks and the state of both side’s back-lines, this means will have a very entertaining north London derby.
Tottenham Hotspur suffered defeat, but their loss came at home to Newcastle United and Mauricio Pochettino will be demanding a massive response from his players.
Arsenal vs Tottenham
Despite the defeat at Anfield, Unai Emery new-look Arsenal have been impressive so far this season with the club’s new additions settling in quickly.
Dani Ceballos has certainly made a swift impression at the Emirates and has proven to be a real coup.
Nicolas Pepe has also shown many promising glimpses, especially when up against Virgil van Dijk on Saturday and appears to have a strong partnership with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The duo’s ability to hit the Reds on the counter was most notable. Emery has admitted that the trio of Pepe, Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette could all start on Sunday.
Tottenham’s back-line have certainly shown signs of weakness in their opening three fixtures, they conceded two goals against both Aston Villa and Newcastle. Jan Vertonghen has been missing from Spurs defense and has been in and out of Pochettino’s squad so far this season.
Christian Eriksen may look to return to the line-up, who has been destined to be off this summer, but with just a few days left of the transfer window remaining open across Europe, he still remains a Spurs player.
