Raheem Sterling has spoken out against racism abuse of England players during their 5–1 win in Montenegro.

Racist chants were directed at a number of players, for example Danny Rose, by local fans during the Euro 2020 qualifier in Podgorica.

Callum Hudson-Odoi, who was making his first international start for England, pointed out that he could hear fans making racist chants.

“A couple of idiots ruined a great night and it is a real sad thing to hear.” Sterling on football’s authorities.

Sterling scored England’s fifth goal in the 81st minute and celebrated by putting his hands to his ears, as a response to the racist abuse.

Danny Rose was given a yellow card after making a strong tackle on Aleksandar Boljevic, which led to more racist chants aimed at him.

This was not the first time Rose has faced this situation on international duty.

He was racially abused in Serbia in an under-21 game in 2012 where Serbia’s FA was fined £65,000, with their under-21s having to play a game behind closed doors.

“It is unacceptable,” I definitely heard abuse of Danny Rose when he got booked.” England manager Gareth Southgate said.

Last year, we had just about 520 incidents, up from 469 the year before. With Over 50% of these were cases of racism.
