Iran vs Portugal — Iran awarded penalty

Portugal were leading 1–0 up against Iran heading into stoppage time. The referee awarded the penalty to Iran despite the fact that the contact was unintentional, and VAR confirmed the spot-kick.

Karim Ansarifard scored to equalise for Iran which moved Portugal to Group B runners-up, after Spain finished their match against Morocco 2–2. The decision to award the penalty could have eliminated Portugal if Iran made it to 2–1 .
